John Piper, the author of Romans?

with 6 comments

Overheard at my breakfast table this morning:

Me: This morning we are going to talk about Romans 12:10.  Do you boys remember who wrote the book of Romans?

My 3-year-old without hesitation: John Piper.

My 5-year-old after a moment of thought: Paul.

Hmm, maybe I’m reading too much John Piper.

  1. Never can read too much Piper … but that is hilarious.

Speaking of Piper, I think he more than any other pastor has taught me what it practically means to do Romans 12:11 - do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.

    Enjoy celebrating Christ’s Resurrection.

  2. I was introduced to Piper when a friend gave me a cd of one of his sermons from Romans 6. Been learning from him ever since. But I’m especially grateful for his Romans material.

  5. Ha ha ha … that’s funny.

As an aside, I like Piper’s preaching, but his writing is too flowerdy for me.

    Thanks for sharing.

  6. The irony there is that Piper has preached through Romans longer than any other book, I’m quite positive. I think it took him between 15-20 years. That really is a great candid comment! I’m sure Paul did reference much of Piper’s work while writing. ;-)
